 Support from Harbinger Foundation helped TIFF launch an Indigenous filmmaking program called Canada 2167. The program commissioned four Indigenous filmmakers to bring to life their vision of Canada in the year 2167 using new filmmaking technologies such as virtual reality.

Delivered water education workshops in northern communities for students from JK -Grade 8, providing 400 students experience with hydrology and watershed ecology including scientific concepts and traditional ecological practices.

Ojibwe Cultural Foundation

Micheeging Girls Group provides, after school programming for two girls groups (gr.5-8). Learnings build on physical, emotional, spiritual and mental health and wellbeing. The project received long-term funding from the Youth Opportunities Fund which will support their work moving forward. 


Land Relationship Super Collective 

This organization, hosted at the University of Toronto, is committed to creating a more cohesive land-based political Indigenous movement. Through the Harbinger foundation’s support, it was able to co-host an Indigenous land-based resurgency conference at the University of Toronto in the spring of 2017, where participants shared best-practises and methods for building and maintaining Indigenous relationship to land.

This Indigenous youth led project was able to continue to cultivate 2-spirit Indigenous youth leadership in food sovereignty and food security work in rural, diverse traditional territories, through peer mentorship and hands-on participation in traditional planting methodologies.


Native Youth Sexual Health Network

This organization, hosted by Tides Canada,  develops and implements decolonial educational workshops and community-based health projects. Support from the foundation helped the network conduct an in-person gathering with their full team in August 2017 which helped them re-connect with one another and support the work of NYSHN moving forward. In addition, the support provided resources for front-line outreach work including care packages which are consistently identified as key support for the youth and communities.

OIYPP

OIYPP provides support for Indigenous youth to develop projects and build networks with other Indigenous youth, funders, and partners interested in supporting youth. All have an element of cultural resurgence by connecting youth and their communities to the land and/or cultural practices.


Aki Energy

 Meechim Farm replaces purchasing unhealthy food with growing healthy food on a community farm in Garden Hill First Nation. It focuses on training and community engagement in agricultural practices and community foods. In the Summer of 2016, Harbinger’s president Joan visited the project to witness first hand the exciting work that has been done.

Providing an opportunity for Indigenous artists and artists of colour to participate in a workshop on training techniques from international artists. The group consisted of First Nations (Mohawk, Dene, Mi’Kmaq), immigrant and first generation Canadian theatre artists.
